While this movie is “based on a true incident” the two books by General Jack Jacob, Surrender At Dacca and An Odyssey in War and Peace, paint a different picture. While some or all of General Jacob’s argument depicted in the film could have been used to convince General Niazi to surrender, they certainly were not delivered in the one-on-one jousting tournament depicted in the film as there were a few other military persons from both sides present in the room during the discussions. General Jacob took with him to Dacca Air Commodore Purushottam and Colonel of Intelligence Khara. Upon arrival in Niazi’s HQ he writes in Surrender At Dacca page 141 that present at the discussions were Maj Gen Rao Farman Ali, Maj Gen Jamshed, Rear Adm Shariff, Air Cmdre Imam, Brig Baqa Siddiqui and the Indian Maj Gen Nagra. In neither book does he mention a Captain who argues with and pressures his General regarding the recording of or conduct of the negotiations.iscing elit.
